The Orange Bowl is a yearly college football game series, most often happening in January. The host is usually Miami in Florida’s metro area. From 1935 to 1937, this tradition was played on Miami Field, then at Miami Orange Bowl (1938-1996). In 1996, the games for the Orange Bowl were played in Miami Gardens.
Since 1968, countless of excited fans get hold of Orange Bowl tickets to personally witness the much-packed action in these games. The Orange Bowl usually showcases the top team of the Big Eight Conference. From 1998 though, when the BCS system was born, the team selection has been attached to the other BCS competitions.
From 1998 to 2005, Orange Bowl showcased either the ACC champion or the Big East conference. For those who are not interested in buying Orange Bowl tickets, they could still see the action via Fox, the media group in charge of airing the games. However, it was ABC who aired this athletic event for eight years. FedEx srved as the corporate title sponsor since 1989, making the official label as FedEx Orange Bowl. In 1999, the event was played on the very same day that Miami Dolphins hosted the NFL Wildcard Playoff. Interestingly, it was ABC who aired both matches.
The most recent event in Orange Bowl history happened in the Dolphin Stadium on Jan 3, 2008. Virginia Tech battled it out with the Kansas squad, which won the game. Those who got Virginia Tech tickets were not disappointed with the level of playing of these two teams, notwithstanding the loss. It was a very close fight, with a score of 24-21.
